10 Kent Uni Starter Pack Essentials
You may think you’re ready for uni in Kent but sadly you’re wrong, unless you have consulted our essential Kent Uni Starter Pack. If you’re going to fit in around here you’re going to need to take the things on this list pretty seriously. Don’t panic though, with our help you’ll have everything you need to know in order to become the best UKC fresher possible!
1. Hate the Poly.
Damn you Christ Church and everything you stand for. You’ll want to start hating our rivals from the moment you arrive.
2. Wear one of these bad boys.
You’ll need to grab one of these pretty early on into the year and wear it proudly everywhere you go.
3. Spend every Wednesday night in Venue.
It’s not Wednesday its Vensday. If you don’t go to the midweek party at Venezuela do you even go to UKC?
4. Love the Templeman.
The Templeman Library and its infinite wisdom is life come exam season and you’ll learn to love it more than your siblings back home.
5. Get annoyed at foreign kids on the high-street
Coming to Canterbury must be on the French national curriculum considering the amount of school trips you’ll encounter here. If you want to fit in you’ll want to tut loudly at the annoying children in their ‘I Love London’ hoodies as you struggle to live your life in a tourist hub.
6. Drink in Spoons.
With everywhere else charging excessive London prices for a pint, the only place in town where you can afford to pre-drink will be Wetherspoons.
7. Live in a building site.
Thanks to the powers that be at Kent Uni, every available green space on campus is being torn up and turned into a building site. Construction of new buildings is happening all over campus so if you happen to love Bob the Builder you’ve come to the right place with scaffolding and diggers dotted all over!
8. Depend on the Uni Bus.
You’ll quickly realise this is the best (and laziest) way to get to and from the city. Our saviour on nights out and just the best on those days when you can’t face Eliot Footpath.
9. Be Hated.
Yep, certain demographics of the city will hate you. Also know as ‘Canterbury’s Finest’ these delightful individuals will decide to dislike you simply for being a student. Embrace it.
10. Finally, love it.
It won’t always be easy but you’ll love it here. Living in a UNESCO World Heritage Centre is definitely more fun than it sounds and when you add twenty thousand students into the mix it only gets better. Being part of a UK top 20 University is also amazing and UKC will quickly feel like home.
