Everything You Need To Know About Solent’s New Building ‘The Spark’

£30 million has been put into developing a brand new building to be named ‘The Spark’. Whilst construction is already well underway, most students have no idea about why it’s being built.

The new building is due to be completed in early 2016.

In celebration of the universities first decade as an established university, this new five-story building, which will be connected to the existing JM building via walkways, aims to offer state-of-the-art facilities for staff and students ‘to study, socialise and share learning experiences.’

The big red pod will be the hub of the new building.

It’s a futuristic bright red facility, designed by Scott Brownrigg, which will have both a full sized lecture room and an open top teaching space which promises stunning views.

One of the most exciting things that this new building will offer is a ‘much needed’ city conference and exhibition space.

‘The new conference centre will feature two large flexible suites comprising of: four meeting rooms with breakout hospitality areas overlooking the atrium; a bookable business centre with reprographic facilities; plus a new café and VIP dining area.’

Once the building has been completed, these rooms will be open to the public to book.

On top of all of that, the public space will provide opportunities to book weddings and gala’s with a dedicated hospitality kitchen which will offer ‘prestige menus.’

Overall, this £30 million investment should not only create a new study space for students and staff, but also give Southampton a place to be creative. Go Solent!
