Here Are The Key Results of The 2016 National Student Survey

This year’s National Student Survey (NSS) has been released.

Each year, nearly half a million final year students across the UK are surveyed – answering 23 questions on their university experience. The results show students’ overall satisfaction with the teaching at their universities.

But 2016 was also the year that the NUS announced it was going to boycott the survey, which may have affected the results.

Those who support the boycott believe that it will enable them to block further tuition fee increases, as the government’s plans to introduce a Teaching Excellence Framework would use surveys like the NSS to establish which unis are doing well and which universities can, therefore, charge higher fees. They believe boycotting the NSS will help prevent the government moving towards the marketisation of education.

Meanwhile, others argue that the survey provides Students’ Unions with invaluable feedback on their institutions.

Nonetheless, the survey was completed and the results are here.
