IN PICTURES: York Says Refugees Welcome Here

York students, graduates and locals came together this afternoon to demonstrate their support for welcoming refugees into York. Despite the rain, over 1000 people turned out to march through the city. They heard emotional talks from refugees, human rights advocates and scholars.

YUSU President Ben Leatham urged UOY students to attend the event via his Facebook page:

“This issue is about so much more than politics, it is about humanity. As a student body we have a responsibility to respond to this crisis. Please please please don’t just sit back and watch events unfold. Act.”

Here are some photos from the demonstration.
