These University Of York Students Have Launched A Society For Willow Fans
Abbie Llewelyn and Lizzie Connolly may well be two of Willow’s biggest fans. Since the venue’s closure in July, these third year students have been eager to find a way to keep its legacy alive. They hope to do so by starting The Willow Society for UOY students.
The Willow Society is currently not ratified or officially recognised by YUSU as a result of a vote by the Societies Committee.
Llewelyn and Connolly intend to go ahead with the society regardless. Activities for members will include Willow-themed pre-drinks (expect prawn crackers, cheap sambuca and cheesy music), going to York’s new ‘Willow’ club nights on socials and even trips to Chinese restaurants.
There has been a rush of support for The Willow Society on social media.
Since the Facebook page was set up on the 7th November, it has reached 188 ‘likes’ (at the time of writing). They have also been praised by Vicki Fong, Tommy Fong’s daughter.
We spoke to Abbie and Lizzie about their hopes for the society:
“We are really looking forward to meeting all the other Willow lovers out there and hopefully the society will help keep the spirit of Willow alive. We still hope to get ratified and will be applying again next term. Don’t stop believing!”
