You Need To See This Durham Student’s NUS Delegate Campaign Video
A student at Durham University has released a video for his NUS Delegate campaign that is unlike any other NUS campaign video you’ll ever see. Probably. Tom Harwood created the video as part of his campaign to run as an opposition candidate for one of the four elected NUS Conference Delegate spots at Durham SU.
In a Facebook post, he announced his candidacy and intention to “speak for the 40% of Durham students who voted to disaffiliate last year.”
He added, “I’m running to be an NUS delegate. As the NUS is a ridiculous organisation, I will be running a ridiculous campaign.”
The campaign video was later shared to the ‘Tom Harwood for NUS Delegate’ Facebook page Tuesday, and at the time of writing has nearly 9,000 views via the page.
At the start of the video, Tom pledges to construct a giant statue of NUS President Malia Bouattia, “so that students in Durham can see how vitally important the NUS is to us”.
He then promises to make “sweeping agrarian reform a national priority”.
Followed by a pledge to “defeat ISIS… using NUS boycotts.”
And promising to “bring down this government by means of violent revolution.”
The video ends on a more serious note, with Harwood saying: “But seriously, if you vote for me I’ll vote against all irrelevant, grandstanding, self-aggrandising, self-defeating NUS policies that only serve to discredit students as a whole.”
