12 Interesting Places In York You Should Consider Taking A Date
Fed up of always taking bae for dinner and a movie? In need of some inspiration? You’re in luck.
Here are some interesting dates you can go on right here in York…
1. Take a walk around the walls.
York is a ‘historic’ city, so why not bask in the gorgeous history and take a stroll around her beautiful walls? Perhaps learn some history to impress your significant other? Failing that, just make it up… What could go wrong?
2. Paint a pot.
This isn’t a joke. Rainbow Ceramics is located on 15-17 Bootham, just off Gillygate. You can go in and paint a ceramic – what more does a date need?! Get your creative juices flowing…
3. Go for a picnic in the Museum Gardens.
Perhaps one of the nicest places in the whole of York. Put together an M&S picnic on a nice day and take in the wonderful sunshine. Perhaps even play a game?
4. Check out Vanbrugh Jazz.
Everyone loves Jazz, right? Of course they do. But do you know what they love more? Jazz AND cheap alcohol, it’s a winning combo.
5. Watch a play in the Drama Barn.
Perfect if you’re looking for a decent, but cheap, date that’s not far from your halls. ODNs on Monday nights are free! And weekend plays can be as cheap as £4.50 a ticket. A couple of cheeky drinks before and after and then perhaps an early night..?
6. Go vintage shopping.
York is blessed with loads of great shops and the vintage shopping scene is no exception. This is a great way to buy a few new pieces for your wardrobe AND appear knowledgeable and cool on your date!
7. Do some birdwatching on Hes East…
Why not tune into your naturalist side? Seek out the waterfowl and observe them in all of their splendour. If you don’t already live on Hes East then you may be tempted to get the bus, but why not walk and pretend you’re going to the Emerald City for extra fun?!
…Just imagine you’re Dorothy and the gang!
8. Go and see some stand-up.
The Basement is a small venue underneath the City Screen cinema on Coney Street. Get yourself down there for a different and entertaining evening. Perhaps you will even get asked to participate?!
9. Go to a concert in the Minister.
As concert venues go, you’re not really going to top this. The extraordinary architecture looks beautiful regardless of the background noise, but when that noise happens to be Mozart’s Requiem the experience becomes really quite incredible.
10. See an old movie.
The Picturehouse cinema on Coney Street shows old films, often on a Tuesday. What could be more romantic than taking your date to see Casablanca over a glass of champagne?
11. Go to an open mic night.
York has perhaps one of THE best open mic scenes in the country. There is an open mic every night at some pub or bar in town. So take someone down to one and enjoy the good music. Even better, surprise them and get on stage yourself?
12. Watch the sunrise from the millennium bridge.
There is nothing more special than sharing this view after a night out. Enjoy.
