6 Things All Londoners Love To Hate About London
Living in London is great. But sometimes it can also be terribly annoying.
There are some things that even Londoners can’t stand.
London is crowded with a lot of people. It doesn’t seem annoying when you’re here for a fleeting visit because it’s all ‘part of the experience’, but live in London and you’ll soon discover a whole new side to yourself, one that involves a lot of evil bus stares, hating on people, hating the weather, hating the pigeons for being there and basically hating on everything.
2. Public Transport
Yes, we’re grateful for it but let’s be honest, no one walks onto a London bus with a smile on their face. Public transport can be slow and sometimes deceitful, it screws up everyone’s day at least once a month. But what’s worse is when you combine it with the first point: people. The awkward silence when you’re basically touching knees with someone you’ve never met is unbearable… unless they’re extremely good looking.
Not just any tourist, the ones who suddenly stop in the most inconvenient places – like at the bottom of an escalator – and the ones who speak too loudly, hold up the Oyster gates and do similarly despicable crimes.
4. The cost of things
This is horribly annoying because while you spend £5 on a coffee, your friend up north is paying£2. The same applies for basically anything – particularly RENT.
The whole of the United Kingdom suffers from bad weather, but London gets special treatment. Wearing several layers because it’s freezing outside but then having to suffer the unbearable heat of the underground – it isn’t fair. It’s impossible to prepare for the weather in London, you’ll always get caught out.
6. False perceptions of the different areas
Particularly from people who aren’t from London. South London isn’t “poor London” and the rich areas have their flaws, too. There are a lot of up-and-coming places that should be appreciated and experienced for all their quirks and charms.
We love to complain about it but we’ll never leave.
London has a hold on us and it doesn’t take long to get absorbed by the energy, diversity and fun that surrounds the city. Despite all these little things that bug you on a daily basis, you love it.
