Anti-Student Stickers Have Been Found On Student Houses In Surrey

No matter where in the country you study, you’ll understand that students and locals don’t always see eye to eye. But tensions in Surrey seem to be particularly high.

‘Anti-student’ stickers have been found on student housing in Guildford, “No more students taking family houses”.

.

A University of Surrey student spoke to the Surrey Advertiser about the stickers and attitudes toward students in Guildford:

.

“…it perpetuates this bad image around students, which I think is unfair and unfounded.

“It wasn’t until the parliamentary hustings last week that I really thought about it.

“I thought back and realised yes, there is this negative attitude towards students in Guildford.

“I was doing some work in a coffee shop recently, just sitting in one of the chairs, minding my own business, and these two women came in, looked at me and muttered something about students always being in there, under their breath.

“You can’t paint all students with the same brush.”

.

Other students have been voicing their concerns on Twitter.

.

Speaking previously about this issue, local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Kelly-Marie Blundell, had this to say:

.

“Students bear the brunt of bad press when it comes to antisocial behaviour.

“Students contribute a huge amount of value to Guildford and we, as a community, must be careful not to tar them all with the same brush.”

.

Take our poll. Have you witnessed tensions between students and locals?
