YUSU Is Using Roses 2017 to Raise Awareness and Funds for Mental Health Charity, Mind
That’s right – the best sporting event in the calendar is back in York.
Named after the War of the Roses, this 53-year-old tradition is an annual sports tournament between the University of York and Lancaster University. The two will battle it out in every sport under the sun, from American football to ultimate frisbee, from e-sports to ballroom dancing.
York is hosting this year and is determined win back the trophy! And the trailer could not be more dramatic…
This year, however, winning is not the only thing on everyone’s minds. YUSU intends to raise awareness of the positive link between mental health and sport.
They hope that old rivalries will be put to one side, as students from both York and Lancaster unite over the cause.
On the Roses event page on Facebook you can view profiles of people who have shared their personal stories of mental health and sport. And that’s not all – they are raising money for York and Lancashire Mind via a Just Giving page where people can donate.
York Sport President, Isaac Beevor, is brimming over with enthusiasm. He told The Daily Touch: “Roses is so amazing! Thousands of students play and spectate over one weekend to make it the largest inter-university varsity in Europe. That’s why we thought this year we would use Roses as a platform to raise awareness of the positive link between sport or physical activity and mental health.”
If you wish to donate, the Just Giving page can be found here.
Here’s what you have to look forward to this year:
