14 Reasons Why You’ll Never Want To Leave Aberystwyth When You Graduate

If you’ve ever seen the Starling murmuration, you’ll understand…

1. The seaside will forever call out to you.

The beach isn’t just mounds of gravel. There’s something about it that manages to draw anyone and everyone there. Plus, Aber sunsets are incredible.

2. And so will the forest.

The rustling of leaves and birds singing is a beautiful combination. It’s great to go down and take your mind off uni work.

3. Rent is much lower on average than other places.

Compared to a city university, Aberystwyth is a tiny town. It’s relatively cheap to live there as a consequence, which never gets any complaints from us because we can spend what’s left of our student loan on more important things. Another bonus feature is that, unlike others, our accommodation doesn’t look like a prison.

4. In general, everything is pretty cheap.

And you can do them over and over again – who gets tired of mini golf, having BBQs and going on mini adventures?

5. Our community is tight-knit.

You’d think the mixture of old people and students is weird, but it works so well. We’re all one big Aber family.

6. You’ll never run out of amazing places to eat.

It’s cheap, tasty, and so close to you – what more could a person want?

7. And you will never want to say goodbye to the seagulls.

Okay, so they’re annoying and so goddamn loud, but hearing stories about other people’s’ chips getting stolen by a crafty flying duo is pretty hilarious. And these stories aren’t just legend – it really does happen! One seagull will knock the food out of your hand, and its partner will swoop down to collect the goods.

8. Train journeys are… unique.

Most of us can count on one hand the number of times we’ve had an uninterrupted train journey. But it becomes entertaining and endearing after the first few train delays you experience. Honestly, who doesn’t want to watch lambs graze on a field in the middle of nowhere whilst the conductor tries to coax sheep off the tracks?

9. The Starling Cloud phenomena is truly mesmerising.

Even if you don’t like birds or have a phobia, it’s so cool to watch them make awesome patterns in the sky.

10. An Aber night out rivals no other.

Quite different to a city university, you can take a £20 note out with you and be more than merry. And think about it – every time you go to Downies, you get to experience that jukebox all over again.

14. The biggest reason of all though is that nobody ever really leaves.

Whether they bag themselves a job or a place on a Master’s course at Aber, it’s inevitable that most of your mates will stay as long as possible. It wouldn’t be fair to leave them behind…
