The 9 Nights Out You’ll Have as a Final Year University Student
Going on a good night out with your mates ranks amongst some of the best memories of your entire degree. In final year, you’re bound to have different nights out depending on the circumstances…
1. The ‘I’ll just come for pre-drinks’ one.
This is the night out you promise yourself you’ll make a quick appearance at and then go straight home to preserve yourself for your important lectures the following day. Your friends, however, have other ideas, and it won’t be long before you forget why you wanted to get an early night.
2. The sloppy one.
Final year is stressful af. Sometimes you just need to cut loose, and that is what this night is all about. You’ll drink way too much and be out of commission for at least two days. Ultimately, you’ll feel more stressed than relieved for not working those few days.
3. The sober one.
This time you mean it: no alcohol. You have something really important to do the next day but it’s your mate’s birthday so you feel obliged to come out and celebrate with them. Seeing the the reality of a club through the harsh light of sobriety will ensure you never make this mistake again.
4. The one you didn’t even want or ask for.
You really have to finish your assignment but, unfortunately, your housemates have decided that they’re hosting pres tonight. You won’t actually drink or go out but you’ll get the night out experience vibrating through your walls as you try to finish your work. Depending on your housemates, this one could be very rough.
5. The quiet one at home.
A more sophisticated affair. Who needs clubs, eh? You can have a good time at home having a few drinks with friends without the expense or excess of getting to a club. You’ll play some games, have some great conversations, and at the end you’ll feel like a proper adult for hosting a drinking party that didn’t end with someone bent over the bathtub projectile vomiting.
6. The not-so-quiet one at home.
It was supposed to be sophisticated. A few too many people will end up arriving and your chilled get-together with the gang becomes a raging party. By the time Queen comes on, it’s too late to be saved. Have fun cleaning up tomorrow…
7. The one where you drink your sorrows away.
The difficulties of final year will mount up, and after a bad result you’ll begin to realise exactly how difficult this year will be. You won’t remember too much of this one but, trust me, that’s a good thing. There will be a lot of tears and promises to yourself that you’ll work harder next time.
8. The celebratory one.
Whether it’s the end of exams or you’ve just got a great result, there will be times to celebrate. You’ll drink a lot but magically it will never be too much. You’ll be riding cloud nine, and the perfection of this night only confirms how great your life is.
9. The final one.
As they say, all good things come to an end. This might well be the final night out at a club you ever have and, like it or not, this one is mandatory. This night is the crystallisation of uni nights out and will probably be the only one you remember as you look back at the fun nights out you used to have when you were a carefree student. There’ll either be no time for you to go out as often as you used to when you’ve got a job or you just won’t have the energy after a long day’s work. Best make this last night out a good one!
