10 Grown Up Tasks You Didn’t Expect To Deal With at University
It’s going to take you a while to adjust to living independently, but eventually you’ll figure out your own way of doing it, you’ll walk with a new kind of swagger and think you’ve found the meaning of life. But what you’re not expecting are the issues you’re going to have to face throughout your uni years, the things that people forgot to tell you when they were raving about university. They’ll become just another one of those things. But don’t think for a second you’ll really know what you’re doing.
1. Council Tax Exemption.
One of those mind-numbing mandatory tasks you have to do if you want to save a lot of money. It’ll take you hours and you’ll never have it first time round but keep going at it, it’ll submit eventually.
Internet. TV. Gas. Electricity. Two water bills? Nope not paying for that.
If you’re one of those unfortunate enough to have meters – good luck. You’ll never get the balance right. You will feed them. And you will do it for light and food. Desperate times.
4. Setting the hot water.
You’d think this was an easy one but you will be cold, all the time.
5. Opening a joint account with a stranger.
You arrive at the house, fresh from the nest and are told you’re opening a joint account for rent with a housemate you’ve never met… or spoke to… or know… sounds legit.
6.Dealing with house issues.
The washing machine’s broken, the fire alarm keeps beeping and you don’t have a freezer. What do you do? Panic, of course.
7. Drying your clothes in the house.
The number one cause of mould in the house. You will smell like damp and you will like it.
8. Housemate habits.
Over the years you’ll live with different people and they will all have habits that you can’t deal with.
9. Buying food to share.
Most possibly the worst idea you could ever have.
10. THE Deep Clean.
You will never understand the extent to a deep clean when leaving a house.
