11 Things You Need To Know About Your First University All Nighter
You’ll see the sun rise for once in a non-drunk setting…
1. It’s a good idea to plan for it.
You will realise that you may have to stay up all night finishing your assignment when times get tough at uni, whether this is because you’re a night owl or simply a procrastinator. You ought to prepare for the possibility before the night is upon you, so you can make sure that you have a plan for pushing through.
2. Such as stocking up on supplies.
Like, loads of different types of snacks! A bag of crisps may help you to power through. Chocolate will give you much-needed encouragement. An energy drink will probably be your saviour. When working without sleep, it is important to get energy from other sources.
3. And know before you begin that there will be highs and lows.
Going so long without sleep can make you feel like a yo-yo. You can expect high points when you’re optimistic that work is going well and you’re actually making progress. But the converse low points come when you feel too sleepy to focus on your work or see the sun peeking through the window and panic because you still haven’t finished your work.
4. The library is an exciting place at night.
If you’re fortunate enough to have a 24-hour university library, you should give staying there all night a try. The university library at night is a fantastic place. You might feel like you’re breaking the rules, on an adventure, and very alone (even though you may be surrounded by people) all in one night.
5. And the people inside are stranger still.
I won’t spoil it for you by telling you what to expect…
6. The night begins on a great note.
If you’re working at home, it’ll feel like any other evening. If you’re at the library, it will feel thrilling. You might feel prepared and ready to be productive, but this may not last.
7. But you’ll later hit a wall.
At some point in the night, you might think to yourself, “I can’t do this. I can’t stay awake much longer. I’m never going to finish this.” Don’t worry, this is perfectly normal!
8. And perhaps even reach a delirious stage.
The sensation of fuzziness, heavy eyes, and finding everything weirdly hilarious is hard to explain to those who haven’t tried staying awake for 24 hours straight.
9. But definitely do not feel defeated!
If you find yourself hitting a low point, it might be very easy to give up, head off to bed and put off work for another few hours, deadline be damned. Do not give into this feeling! You can and will power through this. For the sake of your grade and your pride, you can make it to the other side.
10. If anything, at least you’ll see the sun rise.
This is odd as a student, because you’re rarely ever out of bed before noon. Plus, it’s totally different to see the sun rise when you aren’t drunk out of your mind. You ought to relish the dawn, no matter how tired you are. Not only is it beautiful, but it will also mean that you have successfully survived the night.
11. At the end of the night, finishing your assignment will be the best feeling ever.
Your work is done. You can hand it in. You’re free! Most importantly, you can go to bed.
